Israeli Citizens Fleeing Conflict Seek Refuge in Southern Cyprus
Following the "Aqsa Storm" attacks initiated by Hamas, it has been reported that Israeli citizens fleeing their country have sought refuge in Southern Cyprus.
According to the Fileleftheros newspaper, some of the hundreds of Israelis fleeing the "Aqsa Storm" attacks have stated that the situation in Israel is horrific. Many are diligently searching for flights to Southern Cyprus, which they consider a safe haven.
The newspaper reports that Israelis are attempting to find direct flights to Southern Cyprus, but all direct flights are fully booked. As an alternative, some Israelis have traveled to Athens first and then made their way to Southern Cyprus.
In another report, the newspaper mentioned that as of last night, there had been no official information regarding flights arranged for Cypriot nationals who wish to return to Southern Cyprus from Israel. However, a small number of Cypriots have returned to the island on flights carrying Israelis.
Transport Minister Alexis Bafiadis stated that the situation was being closely monitored and that Southern Cyprus was prepared to facilitate the evacuation of foreign nationals from Israel to the island.
The newspaper also noted that Kornilios Korniliu, Southern Cyprus's Ambassador in Israel, stated that there were no Greek Cypriots in conflict areas. He explained that a few Greek Cypriots were in Israel for medical treatment and tourism purposes, some had gone to Israel for a Bruno Mars concert, which had been canceled, and around 300 Greek Cypriots were in Jerusalem for religious purposes.
