The Commission, established in 1997, has resumed its work under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to ensure the necessary coordination for the construction of the Arçoz-Pyla road and to follow up on issues related to the village of Pyla and its surroundings. In a written statement, the Commission stated the following:

"The Commission, with the participation of representatives from all relevant institutions, held its first meeting this morning. In this context, the Commission deems it necessary to draw attention once again to the following points:

Regarding the construction of the Arçoz-Pyla road, as well as the general issue of Pyla, as previously stated in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' statements dated October 9, 2023, and October 17, 2023, the road project was initiated with the aim of addressing the grievances suffered by our citizens residing in Pyla for many years. According to the mutual understanding reached after intense negotiations conducted with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force, the Arçoz-Pyla road project will continue to be worked on in order to be completed at the earliest possible date while preserving our just position.

As outlined in the scope of this agreement, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will maintain its constructive attitude towards projects that can contribute to the development of the Pyla community, respect the status of Pyla, and are implemented with the consultation of all relevant parties, as it has done in the past.

We emphasize once again that no project related to the use of the region can proceed without the approval of the Turkish Cypriot side.

We would like to remind that the only authorized local authority accepted by our side in the village of Pyla is the Turkish Cypriot Mukhtar of Pyla.

The Commission will continue its efforts to complete the Arçoz-Pyla road project as soon as possible while adhering to the principle of preserving our just position in the region, and will closely monitor all work and initiatives in and around the village of Pyla."
