Smart Traffic Lights to Be Installed in South Nicosia and Limassol
A total of 125 smart traffic lights will be installed at intersections in South Nicosia and Limassol, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Transport and Public Works.
The "Urban Traffic Control-UTC" system will be implemented, allowing smart traffic lights to automatically adjust signal timings based on real-time traffic conditions.
Under the new system, when there are no vehicles at an intersection with a green light, the signal will turn red, and at intersections with a red light, the signal will turn green, ensuring smoother traffic flow. The system will also prioritize buses in dedicated lanes and provide green lights for ambulance and fire vehicles, allowing them to have the right of way.
Additionally, the system will enable a control center operator to monitor traffic conditions at intersections, check for the passage of emergency vehicles, and oversee other traffic-related events, enhancing overall traffic management and safety.
