The Turkish Cypriot Presidency issued a statement on the matter, arguing that the European Union (EU) had effectively become a spokesperson for the Cyprus Republic (southern Cyprus) since it unilaterally accepted the Cyprus Republic as an EU member in 2004. The statement emphasized that the Cyprus Republic had assumed a prisoner status within the EU and had become the mouthpiece of the Greek Cypriot leadership in various international discussions, particularly those concerning Turkey and the Cyprus issue.

The Turkish Cypriot side highlighted that despite the Cyprus Republic's uncompromising position, it had presented a new and realistic vision for achieving a just and lasting settlement to the 60-year-old Cyprus problem. The statement underscored that any resolution in Cyprus could only be initiated after the affirmation of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the two states.

The statement further argued that the EU's approach to the Cyprus issue, along with other parties maintaining a failed status quo, only served to preserve the existing situation. It accused the EU of being part of the Cyprus problem and stressed that it had no role in any potential process related to the issue.

Regarding the irregular migration issue, the statement criticized the European Commission for not reflecting the Turkish side's cooperative stance in its report. It highlighted that the report wrongly portrayed the Turkish Cypriot side as unwilling to cooperate on this issue. The statement considered this portrayal a clear indication of how disconnected the report was from the actual situation on the ground.

Additionally, the statement discussed the closed town of Varosha (Maraş) within the context of hydrocarbon resources around the island of Cyprus. It argued that the EU was encouraging the Cyprus Republic to chase unrealistic dreams. The statement emphasized the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus' status as an equal sovereign state and its right to participate in international organizations as it sees fit.

The statement concluded with a call for the EU to remove the unfair isolation it imposes on the Turkish Cypriot people and not to act as a tool or agent in preventing the voice of the Turkish Cypriots from being heard on the international stage. It emphasized the determination of the Turkish Cypriot side to continue its struggle to advance its acquired rights.
