UNICEF: 1 Million Children at Risk in Gaza
The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has stated that in Gaza, where the healthcare system is on the brink of collapse, 1 million children are living on the edge of a precipice.
In a written statement by UNICEF, it is emphasized that the almost complete collapse of the healthcare system in the entire Gaza Strip, especially in the northern region, threatens the lives of children.
The statement indicates that the Rantisi and Nasr children's hospitals have been subjected to many attacks and that intensive care units and pediatric intensive care units have not been operational in these hospitals for the last 24 hours.
The statement also notes that other children's hospitals in the northern part of Gaza are also out of service due to fuel shortages and attacks. The statement includes comments from Adele Hudr, the UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, indicating that the right to life of children in Gaza has been taken away.
Hudr states, "Children in Gaza, especially in the north, are on the brink of a precipice. There are still thousands of children in the north of Gaza. These children have nowhere to go, and they are in great danger. We call for an immediate cessation of attacks on child healthcare facilities and the provision of fuel and medical supplies."
