The Russian citizen Kristina Shumskaia, who was arrested for the crimes of "circulating a fake document" and "attempting to obtain and register with fraudulent behavior" in Nicosia and Famagusta, appeared in court yesterday.

Police officer Aykut Nergiz presented the facts in court. The police stated that the suspect, on November 17, 2023, at 07:58, at the Metehan Border Gate in Nicosia, circulated a fake Bulgarian identity card with her own photo that she had obtained in Russia to register for entry from South Cyprus to the TRNC. The police said that the suspect attempted to cross to South Cyprus from the Beyarmudu Border Gate around 18:00 on the same day, trying to register with the same fake identity card, and was arrested. The police stated that the suspect was brought before the Famagusta Accident Court on November 18, 2023, and a 3-day detention order was issued against her.

The police noted that during the search of the suspect's car and home, one Bulgarian driver's license, a fake Bulgarian ID, and two Russian passports were found and seized. The police stated that the travel documents were examined, and it was confirmed that the Russian passports were original, while the Bulgarian identity card and driver's license were fake. The police mentioned that the suspect accepted the charges brought against her, and requested her to be released on bail.

Evaluating the testimony before her, Judge Zehra Yalkut Bilgeç ordered the suspect to be sent to prison for a period not exceeding one month.
