The Suspect in Fatal Accident in Kyrenia, to Remain in Custody for 3 Months
Zeka Saldam, the suspect in the traffic accident resulting in death on the Kyrenia - Alsancak Ring Road, will remain in custody for a period not exceeding 3 months.
Zeka Saldam, who was arrested for causing a traffic accident resulting in death on Kyrenia- Alsancak Ring Road, was brought to Kyrenia District Court again.
Police sergeant Nadir Timuçin, who is on duty at Kyrenia Police Directorate Traffic Branch, explained the facts in court. The police officer reminded that the accident occurred on December 3, 2023, around 17:30 on Kyrenia - Alsancak Ring Road, between the 2nd and 3rd kilometers.
The police officer stated that the suspect, driving the sedan with license plate UZ 008, tried to change lanes due to excessive speed and carelessness while driving in the right lane towards the west direction, and after colliding with the left rear of the sedan with license plate RC 268, driven by Seval Özharun, 64 years old, who was moving in the same direction in front of him, he collided with the right rear of the car with license plate TMJ 039, driven by Olgun Karlankuş, 33 years old, moving in the same direction in the left lane. The police said that due to the impact of the collision, the sedan with license plate RC 268 swerved to the right, hit a lighting pole, crossed to the opposite lane, and overturned onto its left side. The police stated that as a result of the accident, the driver of the sedan with license plate RC 268, Seval Özharun, and the passengers in the same car, Dilek Gökyay, 55, and Sevgül Şinasi, 63, were injured. The police mentioned that Sevgül Şinasi, despite all the interventions at Girne Dr. Akçiçek Hospital, could not be saved and died, and Dilek Gökyay and Seval Özharun were treated at Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital.
The police stated that the driver of the vehicle with license plate UZ 008, Zeka Saldam, was also arrested. The police said that the suspect was brought before the court twice and a total of 7 days of detention order was issued, during which they took many statements.
SPEED DETERMINATION REPORT AND DRUG TEST REPORT FROM VEHICLE DRIVERS ARE AWAITED
The police explained that the expert report expected from Turkey for the speed determination of the suspect has not yet reached them. The police also mentioned that blood samples were taken from the suspect and the driver of the other vehicle for drug testing, and the results of the blood tests have not yet been determined.
The police stated that the investigation is ongoing but the remaining part of the suspect's investigations will not affect it.
WILL BE TRIED IN THE HIGH CRIMINAL COURT
The police stated that the suspect will be tried in the High Criminal Court in the future, and the likelihood of being sentenced to imprisonment is high. The police requested the suspect to be tried in custody to be ready for the trial stage.
WILL REMAIN IN CUSTODY FOR 3 MONTHS
Evaluating the presented facts, the court ordered the suspect to be tried in custody and sent to prison for a period not exceeding 3 months for this purpose.
