The new application, similar to the Loizidou case, is expected to positively impact the ongoing execution review process in front of the Committee of Delegates of the Council of Europe.

Unlike the applicant in the Loizidou case, who pursued a solution through the ECHR, the Greek Cypriot in this new application opted to seek resolution through the IPC.

This development is seen as reinforcing the effectiveness of the IPC, contrary to the claims made by the Greek Cypriot side.

Loizidou Case Background:

Greek Cypriot Titina Loizidou filed an application with the ECHR on July 22, 1989, against Turkey, alleging the deprivation of her property and land in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The ECHR ruled in favor of Loizidou, ordering compensation, and on December 2, 2003, Loizidou was paid damages. The Committee of Delegates, on September 22, 2022, closed its examination of the measures taken by the IPC in response to the ECHR's Loizidou ruling, considering them effective and sufficient.
