Buse Savaşkan, a TRNC national, spoke to AA reporter about her assessment of the year 2023 and her goals for this year.

She mentioned that she is continuing her preparations for the new season in the high jump branch in Monte Gordo, Portugal, and said that she is doing her best to succeed in 2024.

Buse stated that apart from being away from her family, she does not have many problems and emphasized that she is working with her coach to fill her gaps.

Reflecting on the past year, Buse highlighted that it was a good year for her, saying, "I could have done better in some races. There were some races where I couldn't perform due to some problems and psychological reasons. I'm trying to perform as well as I can. I could have done better. But hopefully, I'm striving for 2024 to be my year."

"I'm Happy to Race on Behalf of Turkey"

Recalling her third-place finish in the high jump with a 1.91-meter jump at a special competition held in Wuppertal, Germany last week and breaking the women's high jump indoor Turkey record, which has remained unbroken for 22 years, Buse said the following:

"I started to achieve good results in all races this year. I'm very happy about that. I have only one goal this year, to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. I will give everything to go to the Olympics. I aim to go there no matter what. The last representation of Turkish athletics in women's high jump was at the 2012 London Olympics. I want to repeat this success 12 years later. I am a citizen of the TRNC, but I am racing on behalf of Turkey. I am also representing the TRNC. So, I am very proud. This is a great responsibility. I am happy to race on behalf of Turkey. I hope I will continue to bring medals to this country."

Buse Savaşkan also advised athletes who will start athletics like her never to give up, saying, "If you focus on a goal, you can do it. It doesn't matter how difficult it is. I believe that every goal can be achieved through hard work. Female athletes should never give up. With determination and hard work, you will reach good points."

Burcu Ayhan, a national athlete who became the first Turkish athlete to reach the finals in women's high jump at the 2012 London Olympics, finished 12th in the final with 1.89 meters.
