Hulusi Akar: The Cyprus Issue is Our National Cause
Hulusi Akar, the Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey's Defense Committee, visited President Tatar and emphasized that "the Cyprus issue is our national cause." President Ersin Tatar welcomed Akar and his delegation.

He noted that it is customary for any person or institution assuming a position in Turkey to make their first official visit abroad to Cyprus and Azerbaijan, expressing pride in fulfilling this tradition.

Together with our brothers and sisters in Cyprus, we will continue our work hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder, with Turkey."
He stressed the importance of addressing both the security and welfare of the Turkish Cypriots, expressing joy at positive developments on the island and concern over any challenges they face.
Akar highlighted the resolve to address future challenges by working together and emphasized the importance of maintaining the security and prosperity of the Turkish Cypriots.
President Tatar expressed the Turkish Cypriots' happiness at every delegation that comes from Turkey, emphasizing Turkey's importance as a strong and guarantor state in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Referring to a meeting with the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Cyprus, Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar, Tatar emphasized the importance of considering the Turkish Cypriots' position in all discussions related to Cyprus.
He reiterated the principles of sovereign equality and equal international status, emphasizing Turkey's full support for these principles. Tatar also highlighted the historical rights of the Turkish Cypriots and the role of Turkey as a guarantor power.
Tatar thanked Akar and his delegation for their visit and stressed the importance of their on-site inspections. He expressed gratitude for Turkey's unwavering support and reaffirmed the commitment to maintaining the presence of Turkish troops on the island as a deterrent force.
