Letter from Greek Cypriot Prosecutors to Hristodulidis: Our Families Are Being Threatened
Greek Cypriot prosecutors, highlighting that they have been "threatened by elements of crime," sent a letter to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Hristodulidis, requesting urgent security measures and salary increases.
According to the headline news titled "President, They Are Threatening Our Families... Flash Letter from 38 Prosecutors... They Met with the Head of the Legal Department" in Filelefheros, 38 prosecutors sent a letter to Hristodulidis on January 19th due to attacks on their two colleagues in December 2023 and January 2024.
The prosecutors complained that although they had previously only handled criminal cases in traffic courts, they had been dealing with serious criminal cases for the past 10 years, which led to the daily threat to their lives and those of their families, and intentional damage to their properties.
Requesting the government to ensure their security without interruption and demanding security cameras, alarm systems, barricades, and police protection, the prosecutors accused the government of not taking any substantial security measures since 2016, when prosecutors were targeted in a bomb attack and arson. They also called for an increase in their salaries due to the increasing workload and risks associated with their duties.
