Holguin to Start Second Leg of Cyprus-Related Trip in London
It has been reported that Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar, the Personal Representative of the UN Secretary-General for the Cyprus Issue, will kick off the second leg of her trip in London.
According to Fileleftheros newspaper, Holguin will stop in London before coming to Cyprus to engage with both sides.
The newspaper mentioned that Holguin, who is currently in Colombia, is preparing for the next moves on the chessboard of the Cyprus issue with the aim of reopening negotiations. Additionally, the report cited statements from UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, who emphasized Holguin's dedication to her mission.
Dujarric stated that there was no doubt about Holguin's commitment to continuing her work as she is an experienced diplomat. He also mentioned that he was unsure whether Holguin was in New York and when she would have the opportunity to brief the Secretary-General.
In a separate development, Fileleftheros also covered a meeting between Greek Foreign Minister Yorgos Yerapetridis and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, during which they discussed the Cyprus issue. Yerapetridis emphasized the need to evaluate the opportunities provided to the parties involved in the Cyprus problem and reaffirmed Greece's commitment to Security Council resolutions supporting a bicommunal, bizonal federation.
Yerapetridis also expressed Greece's readiness to exhaust all possibilities for positive developments in the Cyprus issue. Similarly, Nikos Hristodulidis, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, noted that Greece and Cyprus were in close coordination and welcomed Greece's leading role in supporting efforts to resume negotiations on the Cyprus issue.
Furthermore, Alithia newspaper reported that several organizations in South Cyprus, including the "Migration Union," the "Committee of Municipalities under Occupation," and the "Union of Villages under Occupation," would request a meeting with Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar. These organizations also decided to present a memorandum on the Cyprus issue to Security Council member states, the European Commission, and the European Parliament.
