He noted that the EU has not shown a particularly proactive approach to the Cyprus issue, citing missed opportunities since the Annan Plan in 2004. Dr. Kızılyürek stated, "Because the EU was expecting a solution at the turning point of the Annan Plan in 2004, which did not happen. Unfortunately, we have been missing opportunities for a solution since then."

Dr. Kızılyürek emphasized that due to Turkish Cypriots being EU citizens, the EU is inevitably obliged to address these issues. He added, "It is important how demanding we are in this regard."

Highlighting that some of the issues faced by Turkish Cypriots directly concern the EU, Dr. Kızılyürek mentioned problems with the Green Line Regulation and difficulties in entering European markets with Turkish Cypriot products. Despite efforts to address these issues, some problems persist.

Regarding the registration of Halloumi, Dr. Kızılyürek stressed its significance, as it allows this traditional Cypriot product to enter European markets. He emphasized the importance of long-term thinking, noting that despite some challenges, Halloumi is a significant export product for Turkish Cypriots, benefiting future generations.
