UK's Europe Minister Docherty: UN Parameters Flexible Enough to Satisfy Parties
Leo Docherty, the European Minister of the United Kingdom, has asserted that the UN parameters offer the flexibility needed to satisfy all involved parties. His statement came in response to a written inquiry from a member of parliament, affirming the UK's support for the UN's parameters regarding a bicommunal, bizonal federation solution in Cyprus.
Reported by Haravgi newspaper, Docherty's response also emphasized that the UN parameters possess the necessary flexibility to address the concerns of all parties involved.
Docherty's remarks, addressing a question from Steven Doughty, the European Shadow Minister of the British Labour Party, underscored the UK's stance, tying its support for the UN-mediated process to the resolution of the Cyprus issue.
Continuing, Docherty reiterated his confidence in the effectiveness of the current UN parameters, designed for a bicommunal, bizonal federation with political equality, to facilitate a comprehensive agreement. He also hailed the appointment of Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar as a personal representative of the UN on the Cyprus issue as a significant development.
