TRNC Traffic Report: 360 Vehicles Banned, Thousands Reported for Offenses

According to information provided by the Police Press Office, a total of 360 vehicles were banned from traffic as a result of traffic inspections conducted nationwide. During the period from March 11 to March 17, 2024, a total of 62 traffic accidents occurred in the TRNC.

Out of these accidents, 21 resulted in injuries and 41 resulted in damage, with a total of 26 people injured.

Among the reasons for the traffic accidents during this period were 21 cases of speeding, 13 cases of reckless driving, 8 cases of failure to stop at intersections, 6 cases of tailgating, and 14 other factors.

The total amount of damage resulting from the accidents was 4,250,175 TL.

The distribution of accidents by districts is as follows:

  • Nicosia: 21
  • Famagusta: 11
  • Kyrenia: 20
  • Güzelyurt: 5
  • İskele: 5

Between March 11 and March 17, 2024, a total of 15,915 vehicle drivers were checked by the police nationwide during traffic inspections. Among them, 4,802 drivers were found to have committed offenses and were reported for legal action against them.

The distribution of offenses is as follows:

  • 1,062 cases of speeding
  • 1,539 cases of speeding detected with mobile devices
  • 26 cases of dangerous driving
  • 33 cases of reckless driving
  • 186 cases of navigation and driving without a license
  • 24 cases of driving without a license
  • 101 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol
  • 418 cases of using a mobile phone while driving
  • 74 cases of not wearing a seatbelt while driving
  • 124 cases of disobeying traffic signs
  • 10 cases of disobeying traffic lights
  • 67 cases of driving without inspection
  • 64 cases of driving without insurance or beyond coverage
  • 16 cases of unauthorized vehicle operation for transportation business
  • 4 cases of unauthorized vehicle operation for special cargo transportation
  • 4 cases of carrying more than the permitted tonnage or hazardous cargo
  • 21 cases of disobeying light rules or insufficient lighting while driving
  • 12 cases of riding a motorcycle without a protective helmet
  • And 1,600 cases of other traffic offenses.

In total, 360 vehicles were banned from traffic.
