In accordance with Article 8 of the Higher Education Law of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), President Ersin Tatar announced that he has appointed Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın as the President of YÖDAK for a period of four years starting today.

President Ersin Tatar wished Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın success in his new role, emphasizing that his biggest wish is for higher education to be effectively restructured following the recent vacancy in the presidency of YÖDAK. He noted that consultations with the Prime Minister have revealed that certain legal changes are also on the agenda, and he expressed confidence that Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın, with his national and international experience in accreditation and management, will make significant contributions to this process.

President Ersin Tatar stated that the Turkish government and the Higher Education Council (YÖK) will provide the necessary support for the forthcoming efforts, underscoring the significant responsibilities that lie ahead for YÖDAK under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın.

Highlighting the vast experience of the TRNC in higher education and the thousands of graduates produced by universities, President Ersin Tatar emphasized that recent negative developments should serve as a catalyst for strengthening this experience, expressing confidence that this would be achieved through a mobilization effort.

President Tatar also assured that they would closely monitor the ongoing negative incidents and allegations.

Turgay Avcı, who was appointed President of YÖDAK in April 2021, resigned from his position due to ongoing legal proceedings against him.
