Police Officer Şerif Avcil and Relatives Released on Bail

In the investigation into 'fake diplomas' and 'corruption' at the Cyprus Social Sciences University (KTSU), President Ersin Tatar's bodyguard Şerif Avcil and his relatives Melek Avcil and Şahin Avcil will be tried without detention on bail. They appeared again in the Güzelyurt District Court.

During the hearings at the Güzelyurt District Court presided over by Judge Gülay Uğur, Investigation Officer Police Sergeant Bilger Koral presented the latest findings regarding police officer Şerif Avcil, his sister-in-law Melek Avcil, and his brother Şahin Avcil, stating that they were found to have acted together.

The Investigation Officer noted that the diplomas of Şahin Avcil and Melek Avcil, who are married, have not yet been found. Referring to Şahin Avcil's voluntary statement, the officer mentioned that he claimed to have burnt both diplomas. Additionally, the officer stated that Şahin Avcil mentioned acquainting himself with the School Secretary, enrolling himself and his wife in the school, and requesting enrollment for his brother, Police Officer Şerif Avcil, which led to a dispute between them.

Regarding Melek Avcil, it was mentioned that she submitted her diploma to the Personnel Department of the Prime Ministry to advance her career, but it was found unsuitable for promotion.

The police mentioned that the phone sought in the investigation related to Police Officer Şerif Avcil has still not been found, and the suspect exercised his right to remain silent.

Considering the testimony, the Judge decided to release the suspects on bail, stating that they will stand trial in the future.
