Traffic Accidents Claim 3 Lives, Injure 18 in TRNC Last Week

In the past week, there were 68 traffic accidents in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), resulting in 3 fatalities and 18 injuries.

According to the weekly traffic report covering the period from March 18th to March 24th by the Police Press Office, the causes of the accidents that resulted in damage to a total of 52 vehicles were listed as speeding (23), careless driving (15), failure to stop at intersections (9), tailgating (8), and other factors (13).

The accidents that caused a total of 5,110,115 TL worth of damage occurred in 27 cases in Lefkoşa, 21 cases in Girne, 12 cases in Gazimağusa, 5 cases in Güzelyurt, and 3 cases in İskele.

During the week, 14,115 drivers were checked in inspections, 13 drivers were arrested, and 268 vehicles were impounded.

Additionally, 3,468 drivers were reported, and legal action was initiated against them.

The reported offenses include speeding (791), speed violations detected by mobile vehicles (726), dangerous driving (18), careless driving (31), driving without navigation license (148), driving without a driver's license (15), driving under the influence of alcohol (85), using a mobile phone while driving (275), driving without wearing a seat belt (58), disobeying traffic signs (137), disobeying traffic lights (5), driving without inspection (53), driving without insurance or beyond its coverage (47), unauthorized passenger transportation (19), unauthorized transport of special goods (2), carrying excess tonnage or dangerous cargo (4), riding a motorcycle without a protective helmet (7), driving with insufficient lighting or not following light rules (8), and 1,039 other traffic offenses.
