CHP's candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu has been re-elected as the Mayor of Istanbul with a lead of approximately 1 million votes.
In his speech at Saraçhane, İmamoğlu stated, "16 million won. 16 million Istanbulites won. Congratulations. There are no losers in this election. You know, where we are, there is no 'other.' Good luck to Istanbul. Good luck to all our people in Istanbul."
İmamoğlu won by a margin of 13,000 votes in the initial election that was annulled in 2019, and by 800,000 votes in the re-run. In this election, he further increased his vote share by an additional 200,000 votes. CHP nearly doubled the number of district municipalities from 14 in 2019.
Districts such as Bayrampaşa, Beyoğlu, Çatalca, Çekmeköy, Eyüpsultan, Gaziosmanpaşa, Sancaktepe, Şile, Tuzla, Üsküdar, and Beykoz transitioned from AK Party to CHP.
Reflecting on the election results, Mayor İmamoğlu stated, "We understood one thing. You, as Istanbul, told us that the era of extravagance in Istanbul has ended. It's closed for good. The era of thrift and abundance has begun. In Istanbul, it's the era where the people's money is given to the people. Partisanship is over. There is no partisanship. There is merit. There is justice."
