Mansur Yavaş Wins in Ankara: CHP Secures Majority in the Council
In Ankara, there has been no change in the Metropolitan Municipality Mayor. CHP's candidate Mansur Yavaş has been re-elected as the Mayor of Ankara for the second time. Yavaş increased his vote share by 10 points compared to 2019. CHP, in the capital, increased the number of district municipalities from 3 to 16.
Mansur Yavaş has won the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayorship for the second time. Yavaş received 28% more votes than his rival candidate from the People's Alliance, Turgut Altınok. He was elected with 60% of the votes, while Altınok remained at 31.9%.
Yavaş stated, "We do not see these election results as a victory. We have no enemies; we are all honorable citizens of this nation and this city. We will serve all 6 million Ankarans without discrimination, by taking off our badges. We will continue to embrace the trust entrusted to us. The title of Mansur Yavaş as a Mayor is confirmed."
In the 2019 elections, CHP had won Çankaya, Yenimahalle, and Elmadağ. This time, the number of won districts increased to 16.
CHP also secured the majority in the Municipal Council.
Yavaş further stated, "The alliance formed directly by the people themselves won the election. I promise, as in our previous term, we will govern with a transparent, participatory, and accountable approach. We will not allow anyone to go to bed hungry."
Turgut Altınok, after the election results, expressed his respect for the will of the people.
