KTEZO: Don't Rule by Oppressing the Merchants

Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Tradesmen and Craftsmen (KTEZO) criticized the government's decision regarding meat prices, stating, "If you are in government, you should know that you shouldn't act like a despot by stepping on the back of the tradesmen, who are an inseparable part of the people." KTEZO argued that chaos was added to chaos with this decision.

In the statement made by the KTEZO Board of Directors, reference was made to the decree envisaging the sale of lamb meat and products at 550 TL and the announcements that those who do not comply will be penalized. It was claimed that with the "unreasonable" decision, tradesmen and the public were brought face to face.

The statement emphasized that the cost of lamb meat is 500 TL, and in addition, there are labor, workplace expenses, rent expenses if any, electricity, transportation, health, and other expenses. It was argued that these were not taken into account when making the decision.

"If you are in government, you should know that you shouldn't act like a despot by stepping on the back of the tradesmen, who are an inseparable part of the people. Politics cannot be made by causing people to quarrel and be divided," the statement said. It was claimed that with this decision, butchers were given the opportunity to quickly go bankrupt, close down, and be declared guilty.
