The phone call between President Nikos Christodoulides and President Ursula von der Leyen of the European Commission took place yesterday afternoon, as reported by Alithia newspaper, based on a statement by Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letimbiotis.

According to Letimbiotis's statement, the discussion between the two officials addressed the recent developments in the region, including the growing influx of refugees from Syria to South Cyprus and the suspension of the examination of political asylum applications by South Cyprus, which will also be discussed at the European Council meeting on April 17-18.

Letimbiotis further stated that Christodoulides and Leyen also discussed the provision of potential economic support packages to Lebanon to address the country's economic difficulties and to manage the refugee issue. They also agreed on the possibility of a joint visit to Lebanon.
