The resolution text includes a recommendation for the UN General Assembly to admit Palestine as a full member.

According to information obtained by AA news agency, the resolution is expected to be voted on during the ministerial-level meeting on Palestine at the UNSC on April 18.

US Signals Veto

However, the US administration had signaled a veto when membership was brought up.

Robert Wood, the Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the UN, stated that the US stance on the matter remained unchanged, emphasizing that the issue of Palestine's full membership should be negotiated between Israel and the Palestinians.

For the resolution to pass, it requires the support of nine out of the 15 members of the UNSC without any of the five permanent members exercising their veto power.

If the Council passes a favorable decision, the matter is referred to the UN General Assembly. Approval for membership in the 193-member UN General Assembly requires a two-thirds majority vote.

Palestine's Membership Application

Palestine previously applied for full UN membership in 2011 but failed to garner the necessary support in the UNSC. In 2012, Palestine was granted "observer status."

Riyad Mansur, the Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the UN, sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on April 2, requesting a review of their membership application.

Guterres, in turn, wrote to the UNSC on April 3, urging consideration of Palestine's request.

On April 8, the UNSC referred Palestine's request to the "Committee on the Admission of New Members."

Following two meetings, the Committee announced that it had been unable to reach an agreement on the matter.
