Prime Minister Ünal Üstel conducted inspections at Beyarmudu Border Checkpoint and announced that the road widening works will start as of next week.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, in his statement to the press after his inspections at Beyarmudu Border Checkpoint, noted that the commission established by the government on this matter has completed all necessary work, and they are waiting for the completion of the expansion works by the British side. "Just recently, a delegation came from the UK and they conducted some work here. But there is no outcome communicated to us yet," said Üstel, adding, "We will start the expansion work on our side as of next week. Because we no longer have the patience to wait. Perhaps when we start, the British will also see and they will start the construction of the bridge swiftly."

"Here, our mayor is working diligently. Both our mayor and our government will carry out these works together, and God willing, we will all come together for the opening of this checkpoint within a month," said Üstel, stating that their goal is to finish the works by June and at least ease the crossings on the Turkish Cypriot side.

Bülent Bebek, the Mayor of Beyarmudu, expressed that they have been experiencing problems with the crossing for a very long time, stating, "For the first time, perhaps, our government, especially our Prime Minister, has shown great determination and given the necessary instructions." Emphasizing the importance of the road widening for them, Bebek stated that Prime Minister Üstel's inspections in the region are also significant.

Bebek stated that approximately 1.4 million crossings are made through this checkpoint annually, and they expect the number to increase to 2 million after the expansion, saying, "Both the local people and our country will benefit greatly from this. As the municipality, we will do whatever is necessary as local authorities."
