Sadık Gardiyanoğlu: "This Table Should Be a Table of Social Consensus"

Minister of Labor and Social Security Sadık Gardiyanoğlu stated in his remarks at the Minimum Wage Determination Commission meeting, "This table should be a table of social consensus." The Minimum Wage Determination Commission convened today to determine the second minimum wage of 2024.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Labor and Social Security Conference Hall, was attended by Minister of Labor and Social Security Sadık Gardiyanoğlu, representing the labor side, Ahmet Serdaroğlu, President of the Federation of Free Workers' Unions (Hür-İş), and Cengiz Alp, representative of the Cyprus Turkish Employers' Association, representing the employer side.

SADIK GARDİYANOĞLU: "THIS TABLE SHOULD BE A TABLE OF SOCIAL CONSENSUS"

Minister of Labor and Social Security Sadık Gardiyanoğlu stated in his pre-meeting speech that according to the decision taken, the minimum wage would be determined three times this year, once every four months, and that today they convened for the second time to determine the minimum wage.

Gardiyanoğlu mentioned that data would be discussed at the meeting, and their goal was to determine the minimum wage quickly and with consensus. He noted that if a conclusion was not reached today, the next meeting would be held on Tuesday at 10:00.

Gardiyanoğlu stated that determining the minimum wage with consensus was welcomed in society, saying, "This table should be a table of social consensus."

CENGİZ ALP: "SMALL BUSINESSES HAVE BEEN CRUSHED BELOW THIS"

Representing the Cyprus Turkish Employers' Association, Cengiz Alp stated that in January, a minimum wage was set that satisfied everyone, but in the past four months, especially businesses in non-competitive, remote areas had difficulties regarding the minimum wage.

Alp said, "Small businesses have been crushed below this," and emphasized the need to protect employment and act in accordance with the realities of the market.

Alp mentioned that the tourism season was approaching and that the issue was sensitive, stressing the importance of not undermining competitiveness.
