Livestock Producers and Breeders Union initiated an indefinite protest action citing the determination of raw milk prices, reduction in input costs, and lifting the decision on imported meat as reasons. Following a press conference held in front of the Prime Minister's Office, the demonstrators attempted to enter the building. Confronted by police intervention, some demonstrators were arrested during the scuffle. In a statement to the press after the arrests, the producers warned that if the detained producers are not released, they will break down the doors of the Prime Minister's Office.

Members of the Union, who decided to initiate an indefinite vehicular protest in Nicosia, had decided last week to increase the price of live animals in line with the cost of living. Livestock producers had earlier blocked the entrance and exit of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources with tractors during a protest.

Livestock producers emphasized that the punishment for the recent years' price hikes is being unfairly imposed on them, declaring their determination to continue their struggle.
