Yeşilırmak Criticizes Özersay: The Leader of a Signboard Party is Engaging in Populism
A- A A+

Yeşilırmak accused certain news sites of distorting the facts regarding his resignation from the committee. He emphasized that he resigned voluntarily, contrary to reports suggesting his party had dismissed him. He accused Özersay of trying to link his resignation to a diploma issue and exploiting it for populist purposes.

"I Resigned of My Own Accord"

Yeşilırmak clarified his reasons for stepping down:

"For approximately 2.5 years, I have been a member and the chairman of the administrative committee. During this time, I also served as the chairman of a specially formed committee, the Deputy Chairman of the Audit Committee, a member of the Petition Committee, and participated in friendship groups. I still hold several ongoing positions. Over 2.5 years, the Administrative Committee has passed nearly 60 legislative proposals and bills, countering the perception that the Assembly does not legislate or work. Despite the Assembly being closed and on recess for two summer terms, we continued to pass laws uninterruptedly. In summary, dear friends, I resigned from this position voluntarily to take on other committee roles and to facilitate their work."

Yeşilırmak also criticized some news sites, accusing them of misleading the public with false statements attributed to him. He suggested these sites were motivated by financial gain.

Public Response and Media Critique

Yeşilırmak's statements come in the context of ongoing tensions and political maneuvers within the TRNC's political landscape. His resignation and subsequent clarification reflect the complex interplay of internal party dynamics, media portrayal, and public perception in Cypriot politics. The critique of Kudret Özersay as a "populist" and leader of a "signboard party" underscores the competitive and sometimes contentious nature of political discourse in the region.
