The malfunction occurred as the plane was about to land at Ercan Airport. The sudden failure of the GPS system forced the aircraft to abort its landing and circle in the air for approximately thirty minutes before it could finally touch down. This technical issue underscored the significant safety risks involved.

The incident has raised concerns about air traffic security at Ercan Airport, which is managed by T&T, a company with significant commercial interests. The ordeal faced by the passengers and crew on the Istanbul-Ercan flight illustrates the need for the airport to prioritize public safety above all else.

Reactions and Concerns

Journalist Ahmet Vamık shared his experience on social media, expressing the precariousness of safety in the air. He wrote:

"In this country, our lives are truly hanging by a thread even in the air... During the Istanbul-Ercan flight, just as the plane was about to land, it suddenly took off again due to a GPS system malfunction at Ercan Airport (according to the pilot's explanation) and circled for nearly half an hour before being able to land... Our air traffic safety, which cannot tolerate the slightest negligence, is entrusted to such a system..."

Vamık's post emphasized the critical need for reliable and robust air traffic management systems, especially in environments where any lapse can lead to significant risks for passengers and crew alike.
