Interior Minister Dursun Oğuz revealed the country's population, a subject of much speculation, during an appearance on a TV program. Oğuz stated, "According to the Statistical Institute, the population of the country is 407,000."
Minister Oğuz ended the confusion surrounding the population estimates. He emphasized, "According to the Statistical Institute, the population is 407,000," challenging those who claim it is 800,000 to prove their figures, asking, "How did they come up with this number?"
Oğuz pointed out that the authority for the population census lies with the Statistical Institute, stating, "I don't know what the Statistical Institute might consider."
