Meteorology Engineers Warn: Beware of El Niño!
The Chamber of Meteorological Engineers issued a statement highlighting recent weather events, indicating that "due to El Niño, changes in climate and peak values occur for a certain period."
The Chamber emphasized that the recent temperature increases observed in Northern Cyprus are associated with global climate change, particularly the El Niño phenomenon.
The statement underscored that the distribution of energy from the sun to the Earth has changed not only due to natural factors but also due to human influence, affecting meteorological parameters.
Engineers pointed out that El Niño leads to an increase in sea surface temperature and causes changes in the climate for a certain period.
In the statement, it was mentioned, "In this era of global warming, if we continue to damage nature, encountering weather events like El Niño and La Niña more frequently would not be surprising. The highest air temperature measured in Northern Cyprus in the last 30 years was recorded in August at 46.6 °C. This value was followed by extreme air temperatures of 45.8 °C in September, 45.3 °C in July, 45.0 °C in June, and 44.2 °C in May."
Mustafa Altunç, the President of the Chamber of Meteorological Engineers, drew attention to the direct impact of weather events on daily life and called for adherence to the warnings issued by the Meteorology Department.
Altunç warned that global climate change and environmental degradation could increase the frequency of events like El Niño.
