Gökçebel: "We’ve Entered an Era of Makeshift Schools, Like in Wartime"
Cyprus Turkish Secondary Education Teachers' Union (KTOEÖS) General Secretary Tahir Gökçebel has voiced strong criticism regarding the use of container classrooms in Lapta, comparing the situation to wartime conditions.
Speaking in front of the container classrooms next to the old nursing home and youth camp, Gökçebel stated, “In wartime, makeshift toilets and dining areas are set up. Now, we have entered the era of makeshift schools.”
Gökçebel expressed concerns over the environmental damage caused by the current setup, emphasizing that no safety precautions were being taken. “Not even the workers wear helmets,” he said.
"More Dangerous than an Earthquake"
Accusing the authorities of ignoring the reality of the situation, Gökçebel stated, “When we ask the minister about education, he tells stories. Is this really the truth of our society?” He pointed out that the legal requirements for opening schools were clear and that approved projects should be followed.
In a harsh critique, Gökçebel claimed, “If there was a project designed to destroy our education, this would be it.” He went on to describe the current situation as more dangerous than an earthquake.
