Commenting on the case of Simon Mistriel Aykut, Director of Afik Group, who was arrested for allegedly selling properties on Greek Cypriot land without the owner's knowledge, Şonya admitted he lacked detailed information about the case but stressed that such cases are dangerous for both the region and investors.

Şonya noted that European investors might be deterred from investing in the region due to these issues and suggested that the case is proceeding according to the political agendas of the Greek Cypriot side, with Aykut being used as a "scapegoat." He emphasized that these types of cases pose serious risks for real estate owners and investors in the region, potentially discouraging investors from Western Europe.

Addressing the Immovable Property Commission (IPC), Şonya underscored the importance of transitional justice in resolving property issues in Northern Cyprus. He defined transitional justice as "mechanisms for investigating and rectifying human rights violations during the transition from one administration to another" and stressed that these mechanisms must be implemented fairly.

Şonya remarked that the IPC’s work has not been sufficiently appreciated. “The IPC is one of the greatest achievements of the Turkish side. There are those who recognize its significance and the opportunity it presents, but there are also those who do not,” he said.

He also emphasized Turkey’s strong history of foreign policy and stated, “History shows how visionary individuals have produced effective policies. I look forward to the day when the IPC functions as needed. This is a very important issue for us.”

Şonya concluded by stressing the importance of adhering to international law, saying, “We must develop policies that align with long-term international law and do not contradict it. Threats like Simon Aykut still exist and are not far off. Decision-making mechanisms need to be operationalized.”
