South Cyprus Reacts to Tatar Being Introduced as "President" on British Channel
The High Commission of South Cyprus in London has expressed strong objections to the British news channel "GB News" for introducing Ersin Tatar as the "President of the TRNC" during a recent program.
According to a report by Alithia newspaper, South Cyprus' Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Theodoros Gotsis, confirmed that diplomatic efforts were initiated to address the issue, emphasizing that "incorrect terminology endorsing the illegality of the separatist regime" should not be used. The High Commission urged the channel to refrain from using such terms in the future.
Gotsis also highlighted the importance of journalists being better informed to avoid falling into the "trap" of using "illegal titles."
The newspaper reported that Tatar appeared as a guest on "GB News," where journalist Martin Daubney referred to him as the President of the TRNC, sparking the reaction from South Cyprus.
