Spanish Education Unions Confederation Supports KTÖS and KTOEÖS

The STEs Intersindical Confederation, which represents education workers in Spain, has expressed support for the ongoing union actions against the disciplinary regulation change that allows the wearing of headscarves in schools.

According to a statement from the Cyprus Turkish Teachers' Union (KTÖS) and the Cyprus Turkish Secondary Education Teachers' Union (KTOEÖS), Spanish education unions have praised the firm stance of the country's unions in defending secular, scientific, and free public education. They argued that the regulation represents a step backward, rather than a societal advancement.
The statement said, "We believe this imposition is repressive, reactionary, and discriminatory. We call on the authorities in Northern Cyprus to listen to the voices of teachers and to adopt policies that will guarantee secular, inclusive, and quality education."
The joint struggle of the unions was also highlighted in the statement, which emphasized that teachers can only fulfill their duty of fostering critical thinking and raising free individuals in an environment that respects secular principles.
