Arıklı: Registered Vehicles in TRNC Exceed 450,000
Public Works and Transport Minister Erhan Arıklı announced that the number of registered vehicles in the TRNC has surpassed 450,000, warning that the existing roads cannot handle the growing traffic load.
Speaking at the presentation of the “TRNC Public Transport Master Plan” — developed in cooperation with Düzce Municipality — Arıklı said the project, nearly two years in the making, is now ready to be implemented.
Highlighting that an average of 2,000 to 2,500 vehicles are added to the roads each month, Arıklı stressed that expanding road capacity alone is not a solution. “The best way to address this is by transitioning to public transportation,” he stated.
The minister emphasized that the plan will significantly benefit tourism and students, reduce fuel and vehicle import costs, and help prevent traffic accidents. A mobile application will allow users to track public transport in real-time, reducing the need for private vehicles.
Arıklı concluded by noting that the government, universities, and transport operators strongly support the initiative.
