According to the announcement, only persons with a Republic of Cyprus ID can cross using their ID. If they do not possess one, a birth certificate or a copy of a parent’s Republic of Cyprus ID is required.

The statement reads:
"Dear friends, the Greek Cypriot side has implemented a new practice at the border gates as of yesterday, 25 August 2025. Only individuals holding a Republic of Cyprus or EU ID will be allowed to pass using these IDs. If a person has a birth certificate, they must present it along with a copy of their parent’s Republic of Cyprus ID. Those holding only a TRNC ID are not permitted to cross. We are making efforts to gather information and keep you updated."
