Erdoğan: We Expect Lebanon to Take a Stance That Safeguards the Rights of Turkish Cypriots
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a telephone conversation with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, during which bilateral relations and regional developments were discussed. Erdoğan said Turkey expects Lebanon to adopt an approach that safeguards the rights and interests of Turkish Cypriots.
According to a statement issued by Türkiye’s Directorate of Communications, the call focused on Turkey–Lebanon relations as well as regional issues.
During the conversation, President Erdoğan said Turkey has consistently supported Lebanon’s stability and sovereignty, noting that the two countries have significant potential for cooperation in trade and investment.
Erdoğan also stated that Turkey is always ready to take part in international mechanisms that would support Lebanon’s security. In this context, he underlined that Turkey expects Lebanon to act in a manner that takes into account the rights and interests of Turkish Cypriots.
Addressing regional developments, Erdoğan said Turkey would continue to support efforts to ensure that the major changes taking place in Syria contribute to regional stability. He also stressed that Turkey rejects Israel’s aggressive stance toward Lebanon.
