Probe Continues Into DISY MP Over Assault Claim; Name Dropped From Ballot
An investigation is ongoing in southern Cyprus into allegations that DISY MP Nikos Sikas assaulted his wife in Athens, following a complaint filed with the police. The case file has been submitted to the Greek Cypriot Legal Service, while procedures are being considered to lift the MP’s parliamentary immunity through the Supreme Court and to remove his name from the party’s ballot.
According to reports, the allegations prompted an immediate police investigation after the complaint was lodged. Developments have brought the issue to the forefront of the political agenda, with legal and institutional steps now under discussion.
Among the measures under consideration are the initiation of a Supreme Court process for the lifting of Sikas’s parliamentary immunity, which would allow the investigation to proceed without constitutional obstacles. At the same time, DISY is reportedly preparing to remove his name from the party ballot as the case unfolds.
The investigation remains ongoing, with further decisions expected following assessments by the Greek Cypriot Legal Service.
