Investigator Appointed To Probe Video Allegations Against Christodoulides
Reverberations continue in southern Cyprus over a video containing allegations of campaign finance corruption involving Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides during the 2023 presidential election.
According to Fileleftheros and other newspapers, the Greek Cypriot Law Office yesterday appointed Andreas Pashalidis as an independent investigating officer to examine all aspects of the case related to the video.
In a written statement, the Law Office said Pashalidis was appointed to investigate, in cooperation with the police, whether any criminal offences may have been committed in connection with the video shared on the “X” platform.
The newspaper noted that Pashalidis is a former Supreme Court judge.
Reports said the investigating officer will examine not only the content of the video, its authenticity and the reasons for its publication, but also any other issues that may arise in the course of the investigation.
Meanwhile, Haravgi newspaper reported that, in addition to the appointment of an investigating officer, the police have sought assistance from Europol due to the international dimensions of the case.
According to the report, a police official stated that the matter is being investigated swiftly with the involvement of various units and specialists.
