TÜRKİYE-TRNC parliamentary cooperation: Aiming for a stronger TRNC internationally

A meeting was held in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to discuss steps to be taken to increase the international visibility of the TRNC.

Concrete steps that can be taken to increase the international visibility of the TRNC were discussed at the meeting which took place at the TRNC National Assembly with the participation of members of parliament serving in various international parliamentary organizations.

Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, Chairman of the EU Committee established to discuss the EU Harmonization Law Drafts of the National Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, met with members of parliament who are members of the EU Harmonization Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye and who hold chairmanship positions in various international parliamentary organizations.

The participants of the meeting, which focused on strengthening the representation of the TRNC in international platforms, are:

Burhan Kayatürk, Chairman of the European Union Harmonization Commission; Meryem Göka, Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe; Yüksel Taşkın, Member of the Turkey-EU Joint Parliamentary Commission; Zuhal Karakoç, Spokesperson of the EU Harmonization Commission; İsmail Emrah Karayel, Chairman of the Turkish Group of the Turkey-EU Joint Parliamentary Commission; Abdulkadir Emin Önen, Chairman of the Turkish Group of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly; and Ali Şahin, Chairman of the Turkish Group of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament and Member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

Following the meeting, Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, Chairman of the EU Committee of the TRNC National Assembly and General Secretary of the UBP, made a statement to the press, emphasizing the importance of the meeting, and said:

"The main purpose of the meeting was to come together with our esteemed chairpersons who represent Türkiye on international platforms and to comprehensively discuss how to increase the visibility of the TRNC in the international arena. In particular, by strengthening our relations with the European Union Harmonization Commission, we are aiming to present the TRNC in a much more righteous and effective way, and to ensure that accurate information regarding the Cyprus issue is presented on international platforms. We clearly outlined our needs at the meeting, and our guest speakers contributed to the process with their views and suggestions. The notes taken will be shared with our government and parliamentary group and, will be carefully assessed. Increasing the international visibility of the TRNC is among our primary goals, and we will resolutely continue our efforts in this way.
