UN Peacekeeping Force’s Mandate In Cyprus Extended For One More Year
The mandate of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) has been extended for another year. The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) adopted a resolution to prolong UNFICYP’s mission in Cyprus for an additional 12 months.
The Security Council convened under the agenda item “The situation in Cyprus” and held a vote on the extension of UNFICYP’s mandate.
Of the 15 members of the Security Council, 13 voted in favour of extending the mission until 31 January 2027, while Pakistan and Somalia abstained.
UNFICYP, one of the United Nations’ longest-running peacekeeping missions, has been operating on the island since 1964, and its mandate is renewed annually.
