Fight Breaks Out Between Savaşan And Talat In Parliament
Tensions flared in the Turkish Cypriot parliament after Public Works and Transport Minister Erhan Arıklı called for politics to be kept out of the debate on the judicial referendum, prompting a strong reaction from Republican Turkish Party (CTP) MPs. As the argument escalated, a physical confrontation broke out between MPs from the National Unity Party (UBP) and the CTP, forcing the parliamentary broadcast to be cut.
The General Assembly of the Assembly of the Republic, which had convened under the agenda of current affairs, was suspended for a short time due to the verbal and physical altercation.
The incident occurred during Arıklı’s speech, which followed remarks by CTP MP Asım Akansoy. As Arıklı took the floor to respond to criticism, tensions rose among MPs, leading to heated exchanges on the chamber floor.
The session, which had been adjourned due to the disturbance, resumed at 15:40, with Arıklı continuing his interrupted address.
