According to Haravgi newspaper, Zyazikov made the remarks in an interview with the TASS news agency, where he underlined that the Cyprus problem could be solved through dialogue between the two community leaders under the auspices of the United Nations.

Zyazikov described the Cyprus issue as one of the most complex problems on the UN agenda and said he believes that the leaders of the two communities can reach a solution through dialogue within the UN framework. He added that Russia, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, continues to support a lasting and just settlement that would be in the interests of the Cypriots and the Eastern Mediterranean region.

The Russian ambassador also claimed that, despite pressure from the European Union, relations between Russia and South Cyprus “remain at a good level.”
