Chair of the Champion Angels Association, Ruşen Yücesoylu Karakaya, said, “There are no words to say. Champion Angels, we love you very much. Let us release the white balloons into the sky for our Champion Angels.”

Students of the Famagusta Turkish Maarif College, along with their teachers and families who lost their lives in the February 6, 2023 earthquakes in Turkey, were remembered today in ceremonies held with white balloons symbolizing “justice and eternal love.”

As part of the commemorations marking the third anniversary of the disaster, families released white balloons carrying the message “Justice and Eternal Love” at the graves of the Champion Angels. Events at cemeteries in Famagusta and other locations began at 14:00.

A Mevlid prayer ceremony will also be held tomorrow at Polatpaşa Mosque in Famagusta for the Champion Angels. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 15:30.

In the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023, measuring 7.7 and 7.6 in magnitude and affecting 11 provinces, the Grand Isias Hotel in Adıyaman collapsed, claiming 72 lives. Among those staying at the Isias Hotel were 35 Turkish Cypriot athletes from the Famagusta Turkish Maarif College delegation, along with their teachers, families and tour guides, who became known as the “Champion Angels.”
