Hasipoğlu: We Are Launching a Project to Protect Children in the Digital World
The Ministry of Labour and Social Security is launching a project aimed at protecting children from digital addiction and online bullying.
Minister of Labour and Social Security Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu told Kıbrıs Postası that, alongside awareness-raising initiatives, a proposal to add a related provision to the Cyber Crimes Law will soon be submitted to a parliamentary committee.
Speaking in response to reports from several countries introducing social media bans for children under the age of 15 or 16, Hasipoğlu said a comprehensive project would be initiated to ensure children’s safety in the digital environment.
Hasipoğlu stated that the main objective is to shield children from screen addiction and cyberbullying and to provide a secure digital space for them.
He said an amendment proposal would be introduced to the Cyber Crimes Law and presented to the relevant committee in the near future. In addition, awareness campaigns targeting families will be launched, and a dedicated hotline will be established, similar to existing helplines created to combat violence against women.
Hasipoğlu also announced that a web portal will be created to provide counselling services for both families and children through the new platform.
