Simultaneous Public Order And Traffic Inspections In Five Districts: 15 Arrested

The Police Press Office announced that during simultaneous public order and traffic inspections carried out across five districts on February 7–8, a total of 15 people were arrested, 10,317 drivers were checked, legal action was taken against 1,643 drivers, and 168 vehicles were removed from traffic.

According to the statement, inspections were conducted between 22:00 and 02:00 in the areas under the responsibility of the Nicosia, Famagusta, Kyrenia, Morphou and Trikomo police directorates. Offences detected included illegal residence, disturbance of public order and numerous traffic violations.

In Nicosia, inspections covered entertainment venues, premises selling alcohol, nightclubs, coffee shops, workers’ dormitories and areas with heavy public presence. One person was arrested for residing in the country without legal status, while two others were detained for disturbing the public under the influence of alcohol. Legal proceedings were also initiated against the operator of a bar found to be violating closing hours. During traffic checks, 4,592 drivers were inspected, 603 were reported for various traffic offences and 62 vehicles were banned from traffic.

In Famagusta, inspections were carried out at entertainment venues, markets, betting shops and crowded public areas. Three people were arrested for illegal residence. Traffic teams checked 1,204 drivers, reported 303 for traffic violations and removed three vehicles from traffic.

In Kyrenia, seven people were arrested for illegal residence. Legal action was taken against three entertainment venue operators for failing to comply with closing hours and against two operators for broadcasting music beyond permitted hours. Traffic inspections covered 1,781 drivers, with 270 reported for offences and 45 vehicles banned from traffic.

In Morphou, no incidents were recorded during public order inspections. Traffic teams checked 685 drivers, reported 93 for various offences and removed two vehicles from traffic.

In Trikomo, two people were arrested for illegal residence during public order inspections. Traffic checks involved 2,055 drivers, with 374 reported for traffic offences and 56 vehicles banned from traffic.

The Police Press Office said inspections will continue without interruption to ensure public order and road safety.
