Tourist Arrivals in South Cyprus Rise 8.5% in January

Tourist arrivals in South Cyprus increased by 8.5 percent in January compared with the same month last year, reaching a total of 121,625 visitors, according to data released by the Greek Cypriot Statistical Service and reported by Alithia newspaper.

The largest share of visitors came from Poland, accounting for 18.6 percent of the total (22,575 tourists), followed by Israel with 18.1 percent and the United Kingdom with 15.8 percent (21,981). Greece ranked fourth with 9.6 percent, while Germany accounted for 6.2 percent of arrivals.

More than half of the tourists—60.7 percent—visited the island for holiday purposes, while 22.8 percent travelled to see friends or relatives. A further 16.2 percent arrived for business reasons.

At the same time, outbound travel by Greek Cypriots also showed strong growth. The number of trips abroad rose by 15 percent year-on-year to 170,045. Greece was the most popular destination, receiving 27.6 percent of these यात्र, followed by the United Kingdom with 8.5 percent and Poland with 5.8 percent.

Of all overseas trips made by Greek Cypriots, 82.2 percent were for holidays, 16.3 percent for business, and the remainder for education or other purposes.
