Two Arrested After Seizure Of Over 200kg Of Drugs, Weapons And Explosives In South Cyprus

Two men aged 34 and 26 have been arrested to assist police investigations following the discovery of large quantities of drugs, weapons and explosives at a residence in Strovolos, the head of the drug squad (Ykan), Christos Andreou, said on Friday.

Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency, Andreou said the total quantity of drugs seized exceeds 200 kilogrammes. 

By 4.30pm on Thursday, officers had counted 150kg of cannabis and 50kg of cocaine, with the process still ongoing.

Police also found 11,640 firecrackers, three pistols – two of which appear to be functional firearms – two improvised explosive devices, more than 30 rounds of ammunition and approximately €13,500 in cash. 

Andreou clarified that the drugs, explosives and firearms were located in external storage areas of a house in Strovolos.

The two suspects were taken into custody to facilitate inquiries, while investigations by Ykan are continuing.
