Meta Shuts Down ELAM’s Facebook And Instagram Pages
Meta Platforms has shut down the official Facebook and Instagram accounts of ELAM following complaints filed by Greek Cypriots.
According to Alithia, ELAM officials described the decision as sudden and unjust and said they had taken the matter to the Greek Cypriot police and the Communications Commissioner.
ELAM Press Office and Communications Head Marios Pelekanos stated that the closure of the party’s official pages after repeated complaints restricted ELAM’s right to political expression on the internet. He called for an investigation into the decision and for the pages to be restored.
Pelekanos also stressed that ELAM is an elected party represented in both the Greek Cypriot parliament and the European Parliament, and warned that what he described as an attempt to silence the party could directly or indirectly affect the outcome of the upcoming general elections.
