Turkey’s Unemployment Rate Rises to 8.1 Percent in January
Turkey’s unemployment rate increased to 8.1 percent in January, up 0.3 percentage points from the previous month, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute.
The number of unemployed people aged 15 and over rose by 73,000 month-on-month to 2.819 million nationwide.
Unemployment among men was estimated at 6.6 percent, while the rate for women stood significantly higher at 11 percent.
Youth unemployment, covering the 15–24 age group, also edged up by 0.1 percentage points to 14.3 percent in January. Within this group, unemployment was calculated at 11.9 percent for young men and 19 percent for young women.
The latest figures point to continued pressure in the labor market at the start of the year, particularly among women and young people.
